In July 1969, Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed Eagle on the Moon while Michael Collins remained in lunar orbit aboard the Command Module Columbia. After completing their historic exploration of the lunar surface, Eagle’s ascent stage lifted off to reunite Armstrong and Aldrin with Collins in lunar orbit.

The mission marked a turning point in the history of space exploration and demonstrated humanity’s ability to travel to another world, land, explore its surface and return safely to Earth.
